Environmentally conscious systems and materials have been included within the building's design to maximise sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint over the lifetime of the building. The Partnership is committed to delivering a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and was awarded LEED Gold Core and Shell pre-certification in 2011.

Low-energy building

Shell and core designed to meet the 2010 Part L Carbon Reduction requirements whilst offering a flexible solution with a BCO compliant cooling capability, including:

• Efficient T5 light fittings with daylight and occupancy sensing systems
• Variable speed drives to reduce pump and fan energy
• Energy monitoring system to fully integrate and optimise energy use
• Heat recovery on main ventilation to reduce energy use
• High efficiency boilers and chillers
• Heat pumps to condenser water system
• Photovoltaic installation
• Solar thermal hot water system

Facade

High-performance unitised facade system comprising:

• Energy efficient glazing maximising light penetration and views
• Solar control glass and shading on East and West elevations to reduce heat load
